3i Members Review: Cost, Who Can Join, and How It Compares
3i Members admits by referral and investor type, with dues of about $18,000 a year. How it works, what it costs, and how it compares to TIGER 21 and others.

3i Members is an invitation-only community of private investors, founded in New York in 2021, where members source and vet private-market opportunities together. Joining requires a referral from a current member, and CEO Teddy Gold says members are exited founders, active family offices or fund managers running $1 billion or more. Dues were about $18,000 a year as of September 2025, with no fee or carry on investments, according to the company. 3i publishes no realized or audited returns, so the case for joining rests on the access and the people.

Key Takeaways

  • Admission is by member referral and by type of investor: exited founders, active family offices and fund managers running $1 billion or more. No dollar minimum is published.
  • Dues have risen from $15,000 a year in 2024 to about $18,000 in 2025, by the founders' own figures. 3i says it takes no fee or carry on investments.
  • Members see about two vetted opportunities a month, chosen from roughly 120 by a member-led committee. Investing is optional.
  • Every size figure comes from 3i, and no realized returns are published.
  • 3i is adding events, member groups and a peer group program, which moves it closer to communities such as TIGER 21 and Long Angle.

What 3i Members Is and How It Works

3i Members is a referral-only community in which members bring private investment opportunities, vet them together, and each decide whether to invest.

Mark Gerson (a co-founder of GLG), Billy Libby (Upper90) and Teddy Gold, now CEO, launched it in New York in 2021. Its first website described a product for investors to find opportunities and co-investors. Gold has since said the founders concluded that sourcing good investments is a people problem rather than a technology one, and 3i grew into a member community.

The process, as Gold described it on the Allocate Podcast in July 2025, runs in four steps:

  • Sourcing. A five-person team gathers opportunities from members and screens them against a scorecard that a quarterly member poll sets.
  • Member diligence. For each candidate, the team assembles members with relevant expertise to dig in.
  • Selection. A member-led investment committee votes on which opportunities go to the membership. Gold says the committee chooses what will interest members and does not underwrite.
  • Launch. About 120 opportunities are reviewed each month and two are chosen, announced by email and on a monthly Zoom call.

Most opportunities are private credit and private equity, usually with companies or funds under about $300 million. Gold says members' combined commitments now reach $50 million to $70 million on a single opportunity, which can win fee breaks, information rights and, in some cases, a board seat or most-favored-nation terms.

Investing is optional. Gold says about 70% of members invest in at least one opportunity in a given year.

Who Can Join 3i Members

3i Members admits people by referral and by type of investor, with no published dollar minimum.

Gold describes two gates. A current member must refer you; 3i's inquiry form asks who did. You must also be one of three things: an exited founder (usually in technology or real estate), an active single-family or multigenerational family office, or a fund manager running $1 billion or more. Candidates who pass both speak with the team and go through background checks. Modus reported in May 2025 that references are part of the process.

3i's privacy policy (updated October 28, 2025) says its services are directed to US residents. Its 2026 job listings describe members in 27 countries.

The categories leave some people out. A senior executive whose wealth is in company equity, or a professional who has built wealth over a career, has no stated route in unless they also run a family office.

What 3i Members Costs

3i Members does not publish its dues. The most recent figure on record is about $18,000 a year, stated by CEO Teddy Gold in September 2025.

When Annual dues Who said it
April 2024 $15,000 Co-founder Mark Gerson, Smart Humans podcast
May 2025 $18,000 Reported by Modus from management
September 2025 About $18,000 CEO Teddy Gold, WealthTech on Deck podcast

Source: Founder interviews and Modus, May 9, 2025. 3i does not publish dues on its website; confirm the current figure before joining.

Gold says 3i takes no management fee or carried interest on the opportunities members invest in, and that membership dues are the business. That covers 3i's own charges only. The sponsor or fund behind each opportunity sets its own fees, and members pay those wherever they invest.

Before joining, ask for the current dues in writing, what they include, and whether trips, the summit or other programs cost extra.

How 3i's Own Figures Have Changed

3i's reported size has grown quickly. Every figure is a company statement, and none is audited.

Read the table as 3i's description of its growth. None of the measures is defined: an event could be a dinner for eight or a summit for 400, and capital invested could mean commitments or money funded.

As of Members Invested through 3i Events a year Footprint
April 2024 About 430 Not stated Not stated Not stated
September 2024 500 Not stated Not stated Not stated
Mid-2025 About 700 $800M+ 125 7 hubs
October 2026 850+ $1.5B to $1.6B 450 9 cities, 27 countries

Source: Mark Gerson (April 2024), Teddy Gold's Substack (September 2024), Teddy Gold on the Allocate Podcast (July 2025) and 3i job listings (observed October 26, 2026). All figures are 3i's own. None is defined or audited, and the two 2026 listings give $1.5B and $1.6B.

Is 3i Members Legit?

3i Members is a venture-backed operating company with named founders and a public SEC filing, though it publishes no investment track record.

The operating company is OneCC Software, Inc., which does business as 3i Members, according to its privacy policy. Its one SEC filing, a Form D from November 2021, records about $3.05 million raised from 30 investors to fund the company itself, not a member investment. PitchBook lists FJ Labs and House Capital among its investors.

What it does not publish is performance. No realized or audited returns are available for opportunities shared through 3i, and return figures that appear in interviews are projections for single opportunities. Ask what members have invested and how those investments have done before relying on the model.

3i Members is not affiliated with 3i Group plc, the London-listed private equity firm; 3i Members says so on its LinkedIn page.

What Members Get Besides Investing

Beyond two opportunities a month, 3i offers events, introductions and smaller member groups, and it is building a peer group program.

  • Events. 3i's 2026 job listings describe eight-person dinners, regional gatherings of 10 to 15, a speaker series of 100 or more, and an annual New York summit of 400 or more. Gold has described poker nights, member-led dinners, workshops and trips to the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting.
  • Introductions. Each month 3i matches every member with another member for a one-to-one introduction, which members can opt out of.
  • Member groups. Interest groups, cohorts and WhatsApp channels, plus a member app.
  • Peer groups. In 2026 3i began building a program of small member groups led by trained members. It has published no details on format, timing or price.
  • Locations. In mid-2025 Gold named seven hubs: New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Toronto.

Is 3i Members Worth It?

3i Members is most likely worth it for an exited founder, family office or fund manager who wants to see and vet two private opportunities a month with peers.

It fits less well for someone who wants a standing peer group or a second opinion on decisions beyond investing, since those programs are still being built. It also fits less well for anyone outside the three admission categories, or for someone who will rarely invest. Gold's own advice to new members is to wait a couple of months before investing, to learn how the process works.

Five questions to ask before joining:

  1. What are the current dues, and is anything billed beyond them?
  2. What have members invested through 3i in the past three years, and how have those investments performed?
  3. Who runs my relationship with 3i after the first year?
  4. Are calls with staff recorded, and how is member data used and stored?
  5. Is the new peer group program included in dues?

3i Members vs TIGER 21

TIGER 21 is a peer advisory group built around monthly meetings; 3i Members is an investment community built around shared opportunities.

The two overlap more than the labels suggest. Gold has said many of 3i's earliest members were former TIGER 21 members, and that about a quarter of members are active in YPO.

3i Members TIGER 21
Built around Shared private investment opportunities, vetted by members Monthly peer advisory meetings
Annual cost About $18,000 (September 2025) $34,000 plus a $5,000 initiation fee (North America)
Who can join Exited founders, active family offices, $1B+ fund managers, by referral $20M in investable assets or qualifying net worth, excluding personal-use assets
Format Two opportunities a month, events, introductions, member groups Groups of up to 15 meeting 11 times a year

Source: 3i figures from CEO Teddy Gold (Allocate Podcast, July 2025; WealthTech on Deck, September 2025). TIGER 21 from tiger21.com membership FAQ, read October 26, 2026.

Choose TIGER 21 for a formal personal board that meets 11 times a year, if you clear its $20 million bar. Choose 3i if the main draw is a steady flow of vetted private opportunities, and you fit one of its three categories.

Alternatives to 3i Members

The closest alternative depends on whether you want access to opportunities, a peer group, or a community that covers decisions beyond investing.

Community Cost Who can join Built around
Long Angle Free to join More than $3M in household assets, excluding a primary residence; assets verified Vetted members comparing notes on investing, tax, advisors and family decisions; members agree not to solicit one another
10 East No membership fee published; management fee typically 1% (range 1% to 2%) plus fund expenses, carry on some funds Accredited investors who also meet the qualified client or qualified purchaser tests An SEC-registered adviser offering single-opportunity vehicles and a private markets fund
TIGER 21 $34,000 a year plus $5,000 initiation (North America) $20M in investable assets or qualifying net worth Peer advisory groups of up to 15
YPO $4,790 initiation plus $4,790 annual global dues, plus chapter dues Under 45 at joining; top operational leader of a qualifying company Forum peer groups for chief executives

Source: longangle.com; 10 East Partners LLC Form ADV Part 2A (August 2026) and Form ADV Part 1; tiger21.com; ypo.org. Read October 2026.

Long Angle is a vetted, vendor-free community where members compare notes on investing, taxes, advisors and family decisions. It is free to join with more than $3 million in household assets, excluding a primary residence. 10 East is closer to 3i in purpose and differs in structure: it is an SEC-registered adviser that charges fees on its investment vehicles rather than membership dues. TIGER 21 and YPO are peer groups first.

Final Thoughts

3i Members is built for one kind of member: an exited founder, family office or large fund manager who wants a steady flow of private opportunities and peers to test them with. Its strengths are member-sourced opportunities, member diligence and a dues model with no fee or carry on investments. Its gaps are the ones any newer community has: no published track record, size figures that are undefined and change quickly, and peer programs still being built. Ask for current dues, the membership agreement and what members have earned before you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does 3i Members cost?

3i does not publish its dues. CEO Teddy Gold put them at about $18,000 a year in September 2025, up from $15,000 in 2024. 3i says it charges no fee or carry on investments, though each opportunity's sponsor sets its own fees.

Do you need a referral to join 3i Members?

Yes. A current member must refer you, and you must be an exited founder, an active family office or a fund manager running $1 billion or more. Candidates then speak with the team and go through background checks.

Does 3i Members charge carry or management fees?

According to its founders, no. 3i says its revenue comes from membership dues and that it takes no economics in the opportunities members invest in. Fees charged by the underlying sponsor or fund still apply.

No. 3i Members is run by OneCC Software, Inc. and is not affiliated with 3i Group plc, the London-listed private equity firm.

Do you have to invest to be a 3i member?

No. Investing is optional. CEO Teddy Gold says about 70% of members invest in at least one opportunity in a given year, and that members who do not invest renew for the opportunities they see and the people they meet.
